Alexander Dennis, a subsidiary of NFI Group Inc., a leader in bus and coach mobility solutions, today announced that its Scarborough employee Robert Noon has been named Engineering Apprentice of the Year at the TEC Partnership Apprenticeship Awards 2026.

Robert Noon is currently in the fourth year of his Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering apprenticeship at the manufacturer’s Scarborough facility. From the outset of his time at Alexander Dennis, he has shown an impressive ability to adapt to new challenges, maintain reliability under pressure, and learn at an accelerated pace. This has enabled him to excel in his own development as well as contributing positively to the wider team and business objectives.

Robert recently transitioned to a role in the pre-delivery inspection (PDI) team, a move that required him to quickly acquire a diverse range of new skills and knowledge. He approached this challenge with professionalism and enthusiasm, demonstrating a clear understanding of the PDI function’s impact on customer satisfaction and operational success.

Robert Noon said: “I am very grateful for the recognition and for everything I have learned throughout my apprenticeship and the opportunities I have been given. Working within PDI has opened up a lot of doors for me, including giving me the opportunity to complete further training and gain new skills and certifications as a result of this.”

Kate Salt, Head of HR at Alexander Dennis, joined Operations Director Euan Cameron in congratulating Robert and said: “What distinguishes Robert is not just his technical proficiency but his attitude and approach to work. He consistently maintains a positive and cheerful demeanour, even when faced with demanding tasks or tight deadlines. This optimism is infectious, creating a supportive and collaborative atmosphere. Robert’s willingness to assist his fellow apprentices is a testament to his character: he actively shares knowledge, offers guidance and encourages others to succeed. In doing so, he truly exemplifies the mission, vision and values of Alexander Dennis.”

Over the past five years, Alexander Dennis has trained 30 apprentices in partnership with TEC Partnership’s Scarborough TEC college where the apprentices gain a nationally recognised certificate on day release, with additional vocational qualifications measured against work-based learning.

Apprentices gain versatile experience and skills for life through hands-on practical training. 90% of apprentices are retained by Alexander Dennis once their four-year programme is complete.

Alexander Dennis also offers a range of apprenticeships at other manufacturing and AD24 sites in the UK and abroad.
